Message So, I was driving to Dallas yesterday and there was a mid 90's F-body conv V8 thing with me in traffic. We kinda look over at each other and pick up the pace a little bit. We take a tight left corner(3 lanes on each side, alomst a 180 degree corner, nasty nuetral/negative camber) and I hang with him no prob around the corner(did have the Kumho's squeeling though). I hang throughout 2nd and back off into 3rd(traffic ahead). The left lane ends and I see him floor it to come around(I'm in the far right lane) so I floor it as well(from about 50 in 3rd). He takes me, but had a lot more momentum than I did. Then we get to more open road, no traffic to speak of. We line up and run from about 65 in 3rd. God-aweful horrible grinding trying to shift into 4th near redline(Altered BeaZt guess I know where you are comming from now). He takes me as I had to let rpms fall to get it in 4th. Line up again at about 70 this time I'm in 4th. He walks me pretty easily. Try it again a few more times, same outcome. They wouldn't really look over much, let alone act friendly. We pulled next to each other cruising and the passenger yelled over to ask if it was a TT, I said no but it made me feel good he though that! =) Anyway dunno what he had done to it, but it was fairly quick. I had T-tops out and windows down, so my drag coeff was higher than with tops on and windows up. Course he had his conv top down.

Part 2:
ElGuapo and I were out cruising around wastng gas yesterday w/ T-tops out and all. Did a few runs against each other from lights and from rolling start. Man, we are just about dead-even as far as acceleration goes!!! Neither one of us could gain on the other from say 0-80, not even a foot or two! Was just about the most even runs I've had, lol. I did take him once, but that was from a stop and he got too much wheelspin on launch, hehe. It was odd, because he seemed to run thru his gears more quickly than I did, and I have a one-piece DS and he doesn't, would expect it to be the other way around. Anyway had fun, cheers Steve! =)

Part 3:
Near death experience in my Wrangler on Saturday evening. So it's Sat about 9:45 and I'm headed to work at the club, as I take the exit from I-30 there is a 3-lane access road and a Civic in the center lane. I'm still doing about 60 and I signal and move accross the lanes to make a right at a light up ahead. As I am crosing behind the Civic(20 feet or so behind him, he's doing about the same speed) I get about halfway accross his lane and he stands on the brakes!!!! I nail the Wranglers brakes a bit too hard in panic mode and lock them up. I am skidding towards the back of the Civic now, he is not letting off his brakes. I am still crossing his lane and I think for sure I am going to clip is right rear bumper with the front left of the Jeep. I get SO CLOSE to the Civic that I can't see anything of it over my hood except the top of the rear windshield and roof, no lights or rear bumper or anything, and he is still slowing!!!! I let off the brakes at the last second and yank wheel to the right. I desparately try not to hit the curb one lane over and go careening thru a chainlink fence into someone's yard, and at the same time I can't overcorrect or I will flip(have a lift on Jeep and bigger tires) I don't know how, but I manage not to clip the Civic or hit the curb. i swear I couldn't have been more than 3 or 4 inches from clipping the Honda!!!! What the hell was the reason for this you ask? He wanted to get on the interstate and was in the wrong lane and going too fast and decided to slam his brakes on to ry to cut accross to the on-ramp w/o having a clue what was going on around him! I was shaking mad and full of adreneiline(sp?) at this instant, as he got on the on-ramp. I ranted and cursed at him, but there is zero hope of me catching him in the Jeep. If I had been in the Z I would have gone thru the intersection at the light, gotten back on the interstate and let him know what the FU$% was up!!! I was SOOO pissed off! It would have almost been a non-event in the Z though, I could have easily scubbed off speed more rapidly and just made a quick lane change and it wouldn't have been anywhere near as traumatic. One of the benifits of have a great handling car.

OK, I will quit going on now, be carefull, and watch out for stupid ppl slamming their brakes on in front of you when in your beaters, especially if they are Jeeps(a lot of us heere, lol)!

Mike
